Art

Another way I pay attention.

I spend a lot of my life listening.

To people. To stories. To rooms. To the way someone answers a question.

Art asks me to listen differently.

To color. To texture. To memory. To shape.

To whatever I’m noticing before I know why I’m noticing it.

This is some of what I’ve been making.

Why I make things

I don’t think speaking and art are as different as they first appear.

Both begin with paying attention.

Both ask you to notice something.

Both are attempts to take something you feel, see, or understand and put it into a form someone else can experience.

Sometimes that form is a story.

Sometimes it’s a question.

Sometimes it’s color on a surface.

I’m interested in all of it.
